I'm not an EMT/Paramedic/ECP (yet) though I want to be a paramedic and am currently waiting for my application to process, so my thoughts are only from a lay St John Ambulance member.. I have two theories, both of which could be wrong.

Number 1) Could it be some form of asthma? I know that sometimes when having an asthma attack you can have different symptoms which seem to move and change without any pattern. However, I would have thought that the salbutamol would have cured it.

Number 2) Was he just wanting a lift in an NHS Taxi and didn't actually have a medical condition to treat (perhaps I'm being cynical..?)

I hope you find out what it was and I'll be back to check cos it's bugging me!!

Thanks

We did indeed give GTN and it appeared to work very well. We did indeed rule out anaphylaxis, both in the house and en route to hospital.

The problem with the noisy chest was that it was transient which meant that it was very difficult to assess.....

No history of Strokes or TIAs, but it may have been a PE, although no pain was complained of.

Its difficult for me to give much more detail on this blog, but they salient points are all here...

...talking to the Drs later, CT scan and bloods were clear as was his neurological assessment........

Ok, I replied on face book but on after seeing a brief description.

Number 1, Salbutamol has helped and did you give any GTN, if so this did too. The tightness around his throat was your hand because he was annoying you and the heavy right arm was because of the tight fitting blood pressure cuff that you forgot to take off. Am I right.....?

On a serious note i assume you ruled out anaphalaxis when you arrived! Does he have any previous cardiac history, or previous tia's/strokes?

So go on then, if its not Pulmonary Odema or Bilat chest infection - Pnuemonia what did they say. The other symptoms may have been nothing or something or not relevant to the first........... Hard to say without knowing all the facts.
