Thanks, that's what I would have thought. What they've probably seen are SOCO staff all suited up, but with swine flu in the news the public are leaping to the wrong conclusion.

Welcome DeusExMacintosh

I'm not aware of any reason why the Police should escort a Swine Flu case unless they are there because the patient is also a criminal or in protected custody.

With regard to Bio Hazard Suits (I assume CR1) there is no procedure that I am aware of that indicates CR1s should be worn for the flu.

I would suggest that someone has either got something seriously wrong or someone is telling porkies!

Quite simply the patient needs a face mask on and you all need to wash your hands afterwards. For real belt and braces stuff, where a mask yourself, a pair of gloves and an apron.

You might be able to answer a question for me then.

I've heard of several instances where ambulances removing serious swine flu cases to hospital were accompanied by police officers in full "bio hazard" gear. Is this standard operating procedure or would police only accompany ambulance officers after a DRA and specific request by paramedics?

As a layperson, I'm having difficulty imagining why police assistance would be necessary.
