Common Sense
Over the weekend we assisted a friend with providing medical cover at a country fair. To be honest the weekend was thankfully pretty uneventful, however one patient stuck in my mind. Not because of the severity of the patient, but more due to the stupidity of their parents!
The weekend was quite warm and had a few Vaso Vagals as you would expect. I mother brought her child up top the first aid point in her arms. She explained that her son had been feeling unwell fir the last few days and was feeling worse since being at the event – was there anything that we could do? We suggested that he needed to see his GP and would benefit from some Calpol and some rest at home.
The mother explained that they had queued for nearly an hour and had been at the event less than an hour – Why tell us this? Is it supposed to change our treatment?
I just wished that people used tis amazing thing called Common Sense, saw their GP when they need to (they even have a facility to see a Doctor at night and at weekends you know!) and instead of dragging their ill kids to events and expecting first aiders to be miracle workers along with turning water in to wine, they stayed at home and looked after them – what a novel idea!
