we don’t need meal breaks!

This isn’t the first time that I will have blogged about this, and it certainly wont be the last!

One of my RSS feeds chucked out this article  – OAP left waiting by dining paramedics

The story states that a 96 year old female who had fallen waited over an hour for an ambulance because they were having dinner.

First of all, the calls are triaged and put into order of priority – you could have a cut finger 2 minutes away or a heart attack 10 minutes away, but just because your the nearest it doesn’t mean that you will get an ambulance!

Whilst its unfortunate that this lady has fallen, there was obviuosly enough people to find a “pile of coats” to put over her, why on earth didn’t they help her up?  I’m sure if she was injured the title would have read- Injured OAP…. but it doesn’t!

Lastly, why on earth shouldn’t we have a meal break?  We work most of our shifts for 12 hours, mostly we finish late which can mean working 13 or 14 hours, and all this is often done either without a meal break or if we do get one it is normally after 8 hours – this is when you 9-5ers are normally leaving work after getting not only your lunch but also tea breaks.  We will get 30 mins followed by another 3 hours of work before we get home!

Maybe there weren’t enough ambulances because some time waster was calling inappropriately for an ambulance, and that why it was delayed?

I will leave you to think of your own reasons for why the ambulance was really delayed….
