Unfortunately as an Ambulance Technician we can’t do this, however a Paramedic who is licensed to give a drug can phone a Doctor in order to be able to give more than protocols allow or to give for other conditions.

Are you able to ring up for a doctor to prescribe over the phone so you could give it? If not then I’d stick to protocols.

Your right, its not worth your job (the reason why we don’t step outside of protocols) Its just very frustrating knowing that you have the tools and the knowledge but not the tick in the box!

I’d have done exactly the same thing as you’d have done. Yes, the drugs you’d have given would be for the correct reason in the correct way and may have stopped him fitting earlier, but you’d be going outside the scope of your protocols.

Would acting in the opposite way be worth your job?
