Today was another University Day…. Only 7 months to go and hopefully it will all be over!!
I’m in my final year now and I think I am starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel – I just hope its not a train coming towards me….

Light at the end of the Tunnel....
Year three has most definitely ramped up a gear. We are finally doing the “Paramedic Skills” and generally the useful stuff that we will probably use on the road, but it does feel that we are cramming it all in at the end, not too dissimilar to the old IHCD methods.
We have one set of lectures that runs through the whole of this year. This module is run by a lecturer that is said to be scary…. I don’t think that he is scary, just straight talking and lets you know exactly where you stand. Why can’t more people be like this?
The other module thankfully only runs for the first semester. This module seems to be made of lots of bits and pieces and doesn’t really seem to have any direction or end objective….
I’m sure the unit lead is very knowledgeable and is very obviously academic but there is our problem. We are looking at drugs and how well they work and have been discussing this at a cellular level. This has involved an experiment that was not only not completed during a three hour lab session, but also too a three hour session for us to be taught how to complete the experiment. We also needed a three hour lecture to teach us the A Level maths needed to interpret the data and other data interpretation techniques and then have to write a lab report in a journal style to prove the learning outcomes…. bored yet?
Today’s lecture was slightly different – It was run by an ex Cardiac Nurse who was now working in the community. Whilst she has not been a Paramedic and has not been out with Paramedics she is aware of our abilities and also aware of the patients that we used to bring in to her.
She not only could repeat verbatim various sections of a book when it was needed but could also tell us “how its done in the real world” and also offer “top tips and handy hints” from when she got her hands dirty.
What a refreshing change!
Anyway, three weeks off now (I say off, but what I mean is, three weeks not going to Uni, we still have to do our 37.5 hours a week at work) and then back to handing in our assignment and then the first exam of the year….
